Tarter
Gate Co. Offers Free Plans for 19th Century Chicken House
Dunnville,
Ky., November 15, 2004
Tarter
Gate Co., the nation’s largest manufacturer of animal management
equipment, is now offering hobby farmers the opportunity to recreate
their own authentic 19th century chicken house by following plans
available for FREE on the company’s website, www.tartergate.com.
Modeled after the chicken house built by Joy Tarter’s grandparents
in 1895, plans for “Mammy’s 1895 Chicken House”
include everything you need to create your own traditional chicken
house, including an architectural layout of the house, a complete
list of required materials, and full color photos depicting the
Tarter’s re-creation.
Joy, who decided to raise chickens for the benefits associated
with free range organic eggs, hired a local carpenter to visit
the original chicken house in Yosemite, Ky., and to then replicate
it on her farm in Dunnville, Ky.
“I am excited that Tarter Gate is offering these plans to
hobby farmers nationwide to build a “tried and true”
old-fashioned chicken house on their own farms. I have enjoyed
keeping my chickens in the house and believe it really adds to
the traditional feel of our farm,” said Joy Tarter.
